Disassembly 1. Remove the differential case. 2. Remove the differential pinion shaft lock bolt, and remove the differential pinion shaft. If required, remove the ring gear and anti-lock speed sensor ring. Note: the differential bearings need not be removed to overhaul the ford limited slip differential. If bearing removal is required, use the 2-jaw puller for differential case bearings and the step plate adapter. The anti-lock speed sensor ring cannot be reused once removed.

1. Move the front seat(s) to center position and the affected door glass completely down. 2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to section 414-01: battery, mounting and cables general procedures “battery disconnect”. 3. Lower the glove compartment by depressing the locking tabs, and disconnect the passenger air bag module electrical connector and connect the special tool (# 418-f468) to the instrument panel harness side of the passenger air bag module electrical connector. 4. Lower the driver air bag connector access cover on steering wheel and disconnect the driver air bag module electrical connector. Connect the special tool (# 418-f468) to the steering column harness side of the driver air bag module electrical connector. Vehicles equipped with side air bags:

Hubs & bearings removal (bronco & f150/250 with manual locking hubs) 1. Raise and support front of vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove locking hubs. See locking hubs article. Remove caliper with brake line attached and wire aside, without tension on brake hose. 2. Remove hub bearing lock nut, lock ring and adjusting nut. Using spanner lock nut wrench (t86t-1197- a), remove nuts. Remove hub and rotor. Outer bearing will slide off with hub. Remove grease seal and inner bearing. If bearings require replacement, remove races from hub with internal puller (t77f-1102- a) and attached slide hammer. Installation & adjustment (bronco & f150/250 with manual locking hubs) 1. If bearings are replaced, drive new races into hub. Lubricate bearings with lithium base multipurpose wheel bearing grease. Install inner bearing and seal into hub. 2. Install hub and rotor assemble on spindle. Install outer bearing and adjusting nut. Using torque wrench and spanner lock nut wrench (t86t-1197-a) tighten adjusting nut to 70 ft. Lbs. (95 n.M) while turning wheel back and forth. 3. Applying inward pressure to spanner lock nut wrench to disengage locking splines, back off adjusting nut approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees). Retighten adjusting nut to 15-20 ft. Lbs. (20-27 n.M). Check hub and rotor assembly end play. End play should be zero. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

Window glass – door, rear removal 1. Remove the door trim panel. For additional information, refer to interior trim and ornamentation . 2. Remove the inside weatherstrip. 3. Remove the outside weatherstrip. Remove the nut. Remove the outside weatherstrip. 4. Position the water shield aside. 5. Connect the door trim panel electrical connectors. 6. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to battery, mounting and cables . 7. Position the rear door window glass to access the rivets.

Issue some vehicles built between 5/1/2001 and 12/15/2003 may exhibit water in the blower case or on the passenger side floor, an inoperative climate control blower motor, a motor that operates on high speed only, and/or a blower motor resistor failure. Action inspect and seal cowl area and install rain-hat extension seal. Inspect and replace blower motor and/or blower motor resistor if there is evidence of water/corrosion. Refer to the following service procedure for details. Service procedure 1. Access blower motor and resistor per the workshop manual sections 412-02 and 412-04. Inspect for evidence of water/corrosion. If water/corrosion are found or parts have failed, replace per workshop manual (blower motor 1f1z- 19805-aa and resistor f6dz-19a706-aa).
