1. Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove lock cylinder bezel from steering column shroud by carefully prying with a thin bladed screwdriver. Zoom sized for print 3. Remove shroud fasteners and remove steering column upper and lower shroud panels. 4. Insert key into ignition lock cylinder and rotate to run position if ignition lock cylinder can be rotated to run position, continue to step 30. ^if ignition lock cylinder cannot be rotated to run position, continue with next step. Zoom sized for print 5. Using a light hammer and brass drift, tap lightly on the top side of the ignition housing assembly at the location indicated in the illustration, while trying to turn the ignition key. ^if the ignition key turns, proceed to step 30. ^if the ignition key does not turn replace the ignition module/passlock sensor by continuing with next step. 6. Disable sir system. Refer to “disabling frontal inflators” procedure in the 2000/2001 s-series body electrical volume iI service manual

Ford focus 2000-05 ignition lock cylinder removal & installation removal & installation 1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section. 2. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection. 3. Remove the instrument panel lower panel. 4. Detach the steering column upper shroud. 5. Remove the audio control switch, if equipped. 6. Remove the steering column lower shroud. 7. Insert and turn the ignition key to position I (accessory). 8. Using a thin bladed screwdriver, depress the detent and remove the lock cylinder. Fig. Removal of the ignition lock cylinder. To install: 1. Press the lock cylinder into place and remove the key. 2. Install the steering column lower shroud. 3. Install the audio control switch, if equipped. 4. Install the steering column upper shroud. 5. Install the lower instrument panel cover. 6. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section. 2. Repair procedure 1. Move the shift lever to neutral. Lock pin shift cable 2. Remove the lock pin from the shift cable adjuster. 3. Check the alignment of the hole in the adjuster with the hole in the shift cable. The holes should exactly align. Shift cable cable too short 4. Loosen the locknut on the adjuster. Turn the adjuster in or out until the holes exactly align. Torque the locknut to 7 n·m (5 lb-ft). 5. Reinstall the lock pin. If the lock pin binds as you install it, the shift cable is still out of adjustment. 6. Move the shift lever to all the gear positions. Make sure the shift lever position indicator shows each gear position. 7. Move the shift lever to park. Make sure the key can be removed from the ignition switch. 8. Insert the key in the shift lock release slot, and make sure the shift lever releases. 9. Reinstall the center console.

1. Record the radio stations and disconnect the battery ground cable. Note: steps 2 and 3 do not apply to villager. Go to step 4. 2. Turn the ignition switch lock cylinder to the run position. Then, push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder. 3. Remove the tilt wheel handle by turning the handle counterclockwise (if equipped). 4. Remove the upper to lower steering column shroud retaining screws and remove the shrouds. 5. Remove the two (2) multifunction switch retaining screws and disconnect the electrical connectors. See figure 1. 6. Inspect the multifunction switch electrical connector pins to make sure they are not loose or pushed out in the connectors. See figure 2. 7. Connect the new multifunction switch, making sure the electrical connectors snap into place and are fully seated. 8. Install the new switch. Tighten the screws to 3 nm (27 lb-in).
