2000 3.2tl – power steering pump replacement 1. Place a suitable container under the vehicle. 2. Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir. 3. Cover the crankshaft pulley with several shop towels to protect if from spilled power steering fluid. Disconnect the pump inlet hose (a) and pump outlet hose (b) from the pump (c), and plug them. Take care not to spill the fluid on the body or parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. 4. Remove the belt (d) by loosening the pump adjusting nut (e), then remove pump mounting bolts (f), nut (g) and pump. Do not turn the steering wheel with pump removed. 5. Connect the pump outlet hose and inlet hose to the pump. Tighten the pump fittings securely. 6. Loosely install the pump in the pump bracket with the mounting bolts and nut. 7. Install the pump belt (a) on the pulley (b). Note these items during belt installation: make sure that the power steering belt is properly positioned on the pulleys. Do not get the power steering fluid or grease on the belt or pulley faces. Clean off any fluid or grease before installation. 8. Adjust the pump belt adjustment. 9. Fill the reservoir to the upper level line.

Wheel hub, bearing, and seal replacement (4wd) tools required j 45859 axle remover removal procedure 1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to lifting and jacking the vehicle in general information. 2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to tire and wheel removal and installation in tires and wheels. 3. Remove the rotor. Refer to brake rotor replacement – front in disc brakes. 5. Remove the wheel drive shaft nut retaining cover. Important: do not reuse the nut. A new nut must be used when installing the wheel drive shaft. 6. Remove the wheel driveshaft assembly retaining nut (2) and washer (3) from the wheel driveshaft. 7. Disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel hub and bearing using j 45859 or equivalent. 8. Remove the wheel hub and the 15-series bearing mounting bolts (4). 9. Remove the wheel hub and bearing (4) mounting bolts, 25/35 series. 10. Remove the wheel hub and bearing and splash shield from the vehicle. Remove the o-ring seal from the steering knuckle bore, 25/35 series. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt (5). Clean and inspect the o-ring seal, 25/35 series. Replace the seal if the following conditions exist: nicks cuts dry or brittle

Removal 1. Disable air bag system. See disabling & activating air bag system . Ensure wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove cruise control cover (right access panel, if not equipped with cruise control) and left access panel. Remove torx bolts using t30 torx bit. Remove air bag assembly. See fig. 11 . 2. Disconnect connectors from horn and cruise control switches. Disconnect 3-pin cable reel connector from steering wheel clip. See fig. 12 . Remove steering wheel nut. Remove steering wheel by lightly rocking it side-to-side while steadily pulling steering wheel away from steering shaft with both hands.

Diagnosis 1. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice). 2. Listen for abnormal noises from the power steering pump while the steering wheel is centered and not being turned. • if the pump whines, buzzes, or hums, go to repair procedure. • if the noise is not coming from the pump, this service bulletin does not apply. Check for other possible causes of the noise. 3. Inspect the power steering reservoir. Does one of the 3 ribs on the reservoir cover point toward the reservoir holder? Yes – this vehicle already has the revised power steering reservoir. Continue with normal troubleshooting procedures. No – go to repair procedure.
