Dashboard component removal/installation caution: when prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. Note: take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts. Instrument panel: 1. Remove the center air vent. 2. Remove the climate control unit and audio unit as an assembly (‘96 – 98 models, ‘99 – 04 models). Note: do not disconnect the connectors. 3. Remove the dashboard lower cover and driver’s switch trim. 4. Remove the screws, detach the clips, then carefully pull out the instrument panel in the numbered sequence. Disconnect the connector, then remove it. Note: release the adhesive at the left side of the skirt carefully. 5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Note: make sure the connections are connected properly. Dashboard lower cover: detach the clips, then remove the dashboard lower cover. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Driver’s switch trim: 1. Remove the dashboard lower cover. 2. Remove the screw, detach the clips, then pull out the driver’s switch trim. Disconnect the connectors, then remove it. 3. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Note: make sure the connectors are connected properly. Climate control unit and audio unit (‘96 – 98 models): srs components are located in this area. Review the srs component locations, precautions, and procedures before performing repairs or service. 1. Remove the console panel. 2. Remove the center air vent.

Dashboard / instrument panel: service and repair removal and installation note: removal and installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people. Wiring and circuit protection for routing and connection locations. Removal and installation 1. Position front wheels in the straight ahead position. 2. Disconnect positive battery cable. 3. Remove cluster finish panel, please refer to body and frame/interior trim/dash board/service and repair/ see: 4. 5. 6. 7. Disconnect all electrical connections from steering column switches. Remove two bolts and reinforcement from under steering column. Disengage insulator retainer and remove insulator. Remove four nuts and absorber assembly from under steering column. Caution: do not rotate steering column shaft. 8. Disconnect park brake release cable and wiring connector from park brake and ignition switch wiring connector. 9. Remove four nuts retaining steering column to support, disconnect prndl cable (column shift) and lower column on front seat. Cover front seat to protect from damage. 10. Install lock cylinder to ensure that steering column shaft does not turn.

Dashboard / instrument panel: service and repair removal 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be depleted. Warning: the backup power supply energy must be depleted before any air bag component repair is performed. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute. 2. Remove the floor console. 3. Remove the screw from the center instrument panel finish panel. 4. If equipped, disconnect the power point socket electrical connectors and remove the center instrument panel finish panel. 5. Remove the pushpins and the lh and rh control box side covers. 6. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable from the instrument panel reinforcement. 7. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable. 8. Remove the screws from the transmission control selector dial bezel.5. Remove the pushpins and the lh and rh control box side covers. 6. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable from the instrument panel reinforcement. 7. Disconnect the radio antenna lead-in cable. 8. Remove the screws from the transmission control selector dial bezel.

Service procedure disconnect the pcm connector. Remove the pcm cover from the studs in the bulkhead. (figure 1) figure 1 – article 06-14-10 inspect the body sealant on the bulkhead to ensure it is not protruding out causing the cover not to seal properly in that area. (figure 2) if sealant is interferring with the pcm cover, remove excess with a sharp tool. Reinstall the pcm cover ensuring the cover seals and is flush with the bulkhead. Figure 2 – article 06-14-10 1. Remove the wiper pivot arm. (figure 3) a. Release pivot arm nut cover. B. Remove the pivot arm nut. C. Remove the pivot arm. 2. Remove the screws. (figure 4) figure 4 – article 06-14-10 3. Release the clips. 4. Remove the windshield wiper hose. 5. Remove the upper cowl panel grille. 6. Disconnect the electrical connector. (figure 5) 7. Remove the lower cowl panel assembly. (figure 6) a. Remove the ten (10) bolts. B. Remove the lower cowl panel assembly. Figure 6 – article 06-14-10 8. Obtain two (2) pvc soft foam adhesive stripes (164-r4901) from the rotunda squeak and rattle kit (164-r4900). 9. Cut both of the pvc soft foam adhesive stripes in half, lengthwise, so you have four (4) pieces 7/8″ x 6″ (22 mm x 152 mm). (figure 7)
