Bumper and bumper cover front—town car removal 1. Caution: never apply heat to the front bumper isolator and bracket (17754). Heat could cause the material inside the front bumper isolator and bracket to expand and flow out of the front bumper isolator and bracket or crack the metal housing. Always remove the front bumper isolator and bracket before making body frame service near them. Remove four screws and washers across bottom of front bumper cover (17d957). Remove two screws (each side) from bottom of front bumper cover at front fenders (16005) and three screws in each wheel opening. 2. Remove two nuts (each side), retaining end of front bumper cover to front fender. 3. Remove front bumper cover from vehicle. 4. Remove two nuts at each front bumper isolator and bracket and remove front bumper (17757). Installation 1. Position front bumper to front bumper isolator and bracket. 2. Install two nuts at eachfront bumper isolator and bracket. Tighten to 34-46 nm (25-33 lb-ft). 3. Position front bumper cover over front bumper and align front bumper cover ends at front fenders. 4. Start screws retaining front bumper cover to front fenders. 5. Tighten screws to 1.2-1.8 nm (10-16 lb-in). 6. Install two nuts (each side) retaining front bumper cover to front fenders. 7. After checking front bumper cover alignment, tighten nuts at front fenders to 9-12 nm (80-106 lb-in). 8. Tighten screws along bottom of front bumper cover to 1.4-2.2 nm (12-20 lb-in). Front bumper cover—town car front—crown victoria, grand marquis removal and installation 1. Remove side marker lamps. 2. Remove two retaining screws and remove parking lamps (13200) from front bumper cover (grand marquis only). 3. Remove two retaining screw and washer assemblies at upper outboard end of front bumper cover. 4. Remove two retaining screw and washer assemblies at the outboard vertical surface of front bumper cover to front fender. 5. Remove six retaining screws at wheel opening flange from front bumper cover to front fender. 6. Remove two retaining screws and washer assemblies attaching front bumper cover and front fender at lower surface. 7. Remove four retaining screws and washer assemblies attaching front bumper cover and radiator support (16138) at lower surface. 8. Drill out two rivets at top of grille opening attaching front bumper and front bumper cover. 9. Remove front license plate mounting bracket (17a385) (if equipped), drill out rivets and transfer front license plate mounting bracket if replacing front bumper cover. 10. Caution: pulling forward on front bumper cover without pushing up to release tabs may cause grille opening to crack. Disengage retention tabs on front bumper cover surface from radiator grille opening panel reinforcement (8a284), push up on tabs and pull front bumper cover forward. 11. Remove four nuts retaining front bumper to front bumper isolator and bracket. 12. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten front bumper to front bumper isolator and bracket retaining nuts to 21-28 nm (16-20 lb-ft). Removal 1. Remove outside rear view mirror remote control unit. 2. Remove window regulator control switch housing by gently prying up, starting at the front. 3. Disconnect all connectors from window regulator control switch housing. 4. Remove inside door handle cup by gently prying at screwdriver slot with a screwdriver. 5. Remove screw directly beneath inside door handle. 6. Remove lower self-tapping screw retaining front door trim panel to door inner panel. 7. Remove rectangular plug in trim panel upper front extension and depress finger bracket with screwdriver. 8. Lift front door trim panel upward and snap out trim panel. 9. Disconnect wire harnesses from door panel as required and remove front door trim panel. Installation 1. Connect wire harnesses to front door trim panel as required. 2. Install front door trim panel by pushing in and down until it snaps into place. 3. Install all self-tapping screws retaining front door trim panel to door inner panel. 4. Install inside door handle cup. 5. Install window regulator control switch housing. 6. Install outside rearview mirror remote control unit.

Trim panels, door front — town car removal 1. Caution: to avoid breakage of door pull cover(s), insert a screwdriver diagonally between pull strap and chrome bracket. Snap out both sides then remove. Snap out two door pull strap retaining screw covers. Remove screws. 2. Remove two screws on front and rear side of front door trim panel. 3. The following procedure must be used during removal and installation of the door armrest and trim panel. Refer to the appropriate illustrations for component and vehicle model identification. Using the trim pad removing tool from rotunda windshield and moulding/trim removal kit 107-r0401 or equivalent, pry the trim panel retaining clips from the door inner panel. 4. Note: do not use front door trim panel (23942) to remove trim clips from door inner panel. Replace any bent, damaged or missing push pins. Remove window regulator control switch housing from back of front door trim panel . Lift up housing, remove retaining screws and disconnect all connectors. 5. Disconnect driver seat regulator control processor switch (driver door only) if equipped. 6. Twist out interior lamp wire assembly and remove the front door trim panel. Installation 1. Ensure plastic watershield is secured to door panel. 2. Position front door trim panel to door. Connect interior lamp wiring. 3. Position the window regulator control switch housing and connect switch connectors. Install the retaining screws. 4. Connect driver seat regulator control processor (14c708) (driver door only) if equipped. 5. Align door lock side to its mating slide on the sheet metal (front doors only). 6. Snap in front door trim panel. Ensure all retainers fit properly. 7. Install two retaining screws on front and rear side of front door trim panel . 8.
